Since our beginning, Allegion has held fast to a set of deeply rooted values that have become a way of life for our team members across the globe. Values like: Serve others, not yourself. Do the right thing. Be empowered and accountable. Enjoy what you do and celebrate who we are. These values as well as the Allegion Leadership Behaviors have the foundation of equity, inclusion and diversity embedded into them.
“Allegion has been proactive and intentional in its (diversity, equity and inclusion or DEI) efforts, not just in the actions the company has taken, but in ensuring the organization had the right voices at the table where decisions were being made,” said Brian McDermott, managing principal of Jackson Lewis’ Indianapolis office and one of the judges of the competition. “Allegion truly has shown it is a leader in the vital DEI space.”
In 2020, with the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and others, Allegion paused to recognize that we are not experts and needed the help of those who are; there was a pressing need to understand the experiences of our employees at a deep level; and this is truly a journey, and it needs to be woven into our business operating system. In 2021, Allegion then initiated an action plan, with our initial priorities set as establishing the Allegion Inclusion Council; chartering and expanding employee resource groups; reviewing business policies, processes and practices; and launching the Allegion supplier diversity program.
“We’re pleased to recognize a company like Allegion that is voluntarily doing the right things to move society – and the business community – forward,” said Indiana Chamber President Kevin and CEO Brinegar. “We hope their commitment to having the conversations and then putting policies and programs in place will inspire others to take action.”
