Additional online event offers virtual operations tour for anyone, anywhere

For the first year since the onset of the global pandemic, Allegion was thrilled to open its doors to students, educators and community officials, alike, for in-person Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) experiences yet again. This marks Allegion’s eighth year participating in MFG Day, an annual collaborative effort among U.S. manufacturers that’s supported by industry organizations like the National Association of Manufacturing (NAM).

Throughout the month of October, seven of Allegion’s U.S. manufacturing sites hosted “MFG Day field trip” events at their local operations, with the aim of educating and inspiring students on today’s vibrant career opportunities in the manufacturing industry. Students heard first-hand from Allegion employees in a variety of manufacturing roles and stages in their careers on their personal journeys in manufacturing. They also participated in behind-the-scenes tours of Allegion’s local operations in: Security, Colorado; Indianapolis, Indiana; Cincinnati, Ohio; Snoqualmie, Washington; Chino, California; Olathe, Kansas; and Princeton, Illinois.

In addition to these in-person field trips, Allegion leveraged best practices from 2021 and 2020 to also host a “virtual MFG Day field trip,” concluding the month of manufacturing celebrations. Students and educators, suppliers and others were invited to attend the 60-minute live event, from remote locations, to learn about the vibrant and valuable opportunities available in manufacturing today through video tours and a dynamic panel discussion.

Overall, Allegion sites opened their doors to nearly 150 students this year, in addition to educators. Public officials and their staff members also got involved – with more than 20 representatives across federal, state and local offices participating. And given a recording that’s now available on YouTube of the virtual event, more classrooms, communities and individuals across the country can engage and learn about manufacturing at Allegion, too.

“This was the eighth year that Allegion manufacturing sites have participated in the NAM-sponsored Manufacturing Day, established to encourage the next generation of manufacturers. It was exciting this year to resume the ‘in-person’ events, which gave us the opportunity to showcase our people and operations to local students and officials,” commented Allegion’s SVP of Global Operations and Integrated Supply Chain Cindy Farrer. She continued to share her reflections, expressing, “While I am proud to show students and visitors what we do first-hand, I am even prouder to see the incredible engagement and sharing by the Allegion employees who participated in these events and worked to make them a success. With the manufacturing skills gap continuing to grow, I am grateful for all of those who help spread the word.”

Again, this year, local media and trade publications covered the events, with some local stories including:
