Product management is a useful methodology that uses customer-centric value streams to create value for the business and customer. On the other hand, project management is used to accomplish tasks within given constraints such as scope, time, quality and budget, and usually uses a waterfall methodology.
The product management method uses an iterative approach to complete tasks and typically measures outcomes, rather than focusing on achieving milestones and activities, such as in project management. (In a recent article, I explored the benefits of product-based IT over project management.)
