Allegion Honored by NAM’s Manufacturing Leadership Council for ‘Sustainability Leadership’

Now in its 15th year, the ML Awards program honors organizations and individuals that are shaping the future of global manufacturing. Allegion’s Princeton Operations was named a winner for an employee-led project designed to enhance health and safety at the plant, as well as reduce water consumption.

“Allegion operates under lean manufacturing principles, so we continuously look for ways to make process improvements while also aiming to be good stewards of the environment and our people,” said Gladys Thomas, Allegion vice president of environmental health and safety. “Our core values encourage employees to be curious, passionate, motivated and accountable. Fostering a culture that empowers our workforce in these ways enables Allegion to succeed in a highly competitive industry. Our people make the difference, and this award attests to that.”

Last year, employees at the Princeton facility identified an opportunity to reuse process water in two different areas of the plant. This improvement resulted in an annual savings of more than 700,000 gallons of fresh water while also eliminating the use of chemicals in the manufacturing process. Allegion manufactures LCN® door closers at its Princeton facility, where it’s operated for 70 years.

“Congratulations to all of the 2019 Manufacturing Leadership Awards winners,” said Manufacturing Leadership Council Co-Founder, Vice President and Executive Director David R. Brousell. “By embracing new technologies and bold ideas, these teams and individual leaders are redefining the meaning of manufacturing excellence and demonstrating the transformative power of Manufacturing 4.0.”

The awards were handed out on Wednesday, June 12, in Huntington Beach, Calif., at the Manufacturing Leadership Summit, which had a manufacturing 4.0 theme this year. For more information on the 2019 ML Awards, visit https://www.manufacturingleadershipcouncil.com/.
