Forbes: Shift left, stretch right: How these yoga-sounding directions help to implement quality engineering

When you first read “shift left, stretch right,” you might think these directions sound a lot like I’m suggesting yoga stretches. While this instruction might also be useful in that setting, the easy-to-remember mantra is actually a fundamental tool for implementing quality engineering (QE) within enterprises.

As explained in my previous article, “The Foundations of Enterprise Quality Engineering,” my organization is a tech-enabled manufacturer (not a native software company). As our digital presence continues to evolve and become more sophisticated, the bar continues to rise in order to meet and exceed our customers’ needs. Thus, we took a long, hard look at how we perceived quality and have since adopted a QE mindset: putting quality front and center for the entire team and ensuring quality is built into every aspect of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
